On June 26th and 27th, 20 Chairs of the 20 groups of fifty volunteers as well 12 youth working at ASEM Volunteer Management Office had a two day training at Mongolian & Kuwait research center at Bogd mountain. The purpose of this training was to enhance their leadership effectiveness by applying the leadership theory and practice advice from experienced youth development trainers.

Mr. Munkhtulga, a Head of ASEM 11 Volunteers station and Ms. Enkhtuya, ASEM 11 Volunteer Management Specialist, UNV delivered jointly this training. 



The training applied participatory module which used lecture, guided discussion, a small group activity, case study, and video presentation. Mr. Munkhtulga led sessions on defining their goals, SWOT analysis of ASEM management team, and then more precise planning as the series of events approach closer.   

Based on her background and many years of experience, Ms. Enkhtuya facilitated sessions on the leadership and qualities of good leaders. The leadership qualities such as a two-way communication, listening, explaining decisions, providing support and encouragement and praise and facilitating follower involvement in decision-making and problem-solving. Kenneth Blanchard's book, Leadership and the One-Minute Manager, listed in the bibliography, was used for very useful background information for the facilitator. She then also covered the elements of effective team management, including competent leadership, clear purpose, trust, and individual performance.

Mrs. Enktuya. D, Chair of ASEM 11 Volunteer Management Office updated participants with the latest management arrangements proposed by the ASEM Management Office at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The importance of having strong Chairs of each fifty volunteer groups is key to managing 1200 volunteers during the event. These 20 Chairs were nominated and elected by their group of fifties.
